U.S. Navy – Wellness Center Renovation (203)

Renovate Fitness and Wellness Center Building 499 at this Navy Base. This consisted of renovating approximately 45,000 square feet of existing building to bring it up to new modernized standards. This entailed abating ACM (asbestos containing materials), major demolition package including mechanical, plumbing and electrical demolitions. Portions of the existing building was once used as a kitchen and dining facility in the past, which left existing mechanical hoods and major ductwork and electrical systems to be removed. It also entailed major floor demolition due to the existing quarry tile and thick set mortar beds. Existing walls were concrete masonry units with applied ceramic tile walls with plaster lathed ceilings.

Removal and installation of new ceramic tile floors in the locker rooms, sauna, and steam rooms were required. Three new restroom facilities were installed to bring them up to ADA compliance. A new area was renovated for a family member area with a designated area for a toddler area. The fire alarm as well as the fire sprinkler systems was upgraded to accommodate the new remodeled areas. A new handicapped ramp was installed on the Northeast corner of the building to comply with ADA standards.
